Built for the AI era

How AI fits this roadmap

Teams now want language models connected to the tools they already use, with answers that are structured and reliable enough to act on. In this role AI is the material you build with, so every week you write prompts, call a model from a workflow or from code, and test the results against examples instead of trusting one good run. You also use an AI coding assistant daily to write the small scripts, and you learn to read and test what it produces.

The main project

OpsDesk

An automation system for a small team that reads incoming emails and forms, uses an AI model to sort and draft replies, updates their tools, and asks a person to approve anything risky.

What you will be able to do

  • 01

Write prompts that return structured JSON, and test them against a set of at least 30 example inputs that you wrote and score.

  • 02

Build workflows in a visual automation tool with triggers, webhooks, branching, retries and error handling.

  • 03

Call a language model API from Python, validate its output, and handle failures, timeouts and bad answers.

  • 04

Add a human approval step and a log to an automation so every AI action can be reviewed and undone.

  • 05

Deploy and document an automation for a real or realistic client, with a handover guide and a way to monitor it.

01The route

Five months, one month at a time.

Each month ends in a milestone project, so you always have something to show for the work.

  1. Month 1 · Weeks 1–3

    Prompting, JSON and first automations

How to write clear prompts, ask for structured output, and compare prompts on a test set. You start using an AI assistant for daily work and learn to check its answers. You build your first workflow in a visual tool.

MilestoneA first workflow that turns messy text into clean JSON, with a test set and a score for each prompt version

  2. Month 2 · Weeks 4–6

    Workflow tools and integrations

Triggers, webhooks, REST APIs, JSON, authentication and scheduled runs in n8n, Make and Zapier. You connect email, forms and a spreadsheet or database, and use AI to draft the mapping, then fix it.

MilestoneOpsDesk v1: incoming emails and forms are read, sorted by an AI step and saved to a sheet

  3. Month 3 · Weeks 7–10

    Python and model APIs

Python basics for automation, then calling the OpenAI and Anthropic APIs with structured outputs, schema checks, retries and logging. You write scripts with an AI coding assistant and test each one before use.

MilestoneA tested Python service that classifies and drafts replies, rejects invalid model output and logs every call

  4. Month 4 · Weeks 11–13

    Agents, approvals and safety

Give a model tools to call, keep a person in the loop for risky steps, and defend against prompt injection from untrusted email text. You test with hostile and strange inputs.

MilestoneOpsDesk v2: the AI can look things up and prepare actions, and a person approves before anything is sent or changed

  5. Month 5 · Weeks 14–16

    Client delivery and portfolio

Monitoring, cost limits, error alerts, handover documents and a short demo video. You also scope a small automation job, write a proposal and prepare for applications or freelance work.

MilestoneA deployed OpsDesk with a handover guide, a demo, a case study and a proposal template

03What is inside

Everything a week comes with.

Every week is built the same way, so once you have done one you know how all of them work.

  • 01

    One project, OpsDesk

You grow one automation system for a small team, with AI inside it, so every tool lands in something real.

  • 02

    A day-by-day plan

Each week has a Learn part and a Do part, with a checklist so you know when you are done. Most weeks include a task to do with an AI assistant and a step to check its work.

  • 03

    A project in every milestone

Five milestones, each ending in something you can show and link to.

  • 04

    Reference topics

Short topic pages with check questions you can come back to.

  • 05

    A job track

Portfolio and resume help, proposal writing for freelance work, interview practice, and an application plan.

  • 06

    Progress in your Study plan

Add weeks to your Study plan, give them dates, and finished days are counted for you.

04Is it for you

Who this is, and is not, for.

Better to know before you start than six weeks in.

It is for you if

  • You work in operations, support, marketing, sales or admin and want to build the automations yourself.
  • You are a developer or analyst who wants to be strong at putting AI models into real workflows.
  • You can give about 30 hours a week for four months, part-time alongside other work.

It is not for you if

  • You have never used a computer for work beyond basics. Do a beginner course first.
  • You want a job guarantee. Nobody can promise that, and this roadmap does not.
  • You want to research or train new AI models. A machine learning roadmap will cover that.
  • You want to let AI act on money, customers or private data with no person checking. This roadmap trains you to add checks.

?Questions

Before you start

Is this roadmap ready?
Not yet. This is the plan. The weeks are being written and checked against current job postings and official documentation. Leave your email and we will write to you when it opens.
What will it cost?
The price is not set. Roadmaps are bought once, with no subscription. We will announce it when this one opens.
Will the plan change?
It may. Before the weeks are written we check the tools against current job postings, so the lengths and months here are planned, not final.
Do I need to pay for automation tools and AI models?
Probably a little. Some tools have free plans and n8n can be run on your own computer, but model APIs usually charge per use. The roadmap will show how to cap spending, and will say which parts work on free plans once the weeks are written.
Will it get me a job?
It will give you skills and proof of work. It cannot promise a job on a fixed date, because hiring depends on the market, your location and your past work.
