Built for the AI era
How AI fits this roadmap
AI coding assistants and agents now sit inside mobile editors, so a mobile developer is expected to direct them, review what they write and test it on real devices. Apps can also call cloud AI services, so mobile developers now build AI features such as chat and assistants. This roadmap teaches AI-assisted building from week 1, and later has you add an AI feature to your own app and keep its keys and data safe.
The main project
PocketPlan
A personal planning app that starts as one screen, grows into a full Android and iOS app with a cloud backend and an AI assistant feature, and ends up on the stores.
What you will be able to do
- 01
Build multi-screen apps in Flutter and Dart that run on both Android and iOS.
- 02
Use an AI coding assistant to draft screens and tests, then review, correct and test what it wrote.
- 03
Connect an app to a REST API and a Firebase backend, with sign-in and saved data.
- 04
Add an AI feature to the app using a cloud AI service, and handle slow, wrong or failed answers.
- 05
Test, package and submit the app to Google Play and the Apple App Store, and write up the project for a portfolio.
01The route
Five months, one month at a time.
Each month ends in a milestone project, so you always have something to show for the work.
Month 1 · Weeks 1–4
Dart, Flutter and AI-assisted building
Dart basics, Flutter widgets and layout, Git, and a daily habit of building with an AI assistant and reviewing its output.
MilestoneA working multi-screen app running on an emulator, with a written note on what the AI got wrong
Month 2 · Weeks 5–9
State, navigation and data
App state, navigation, forms, local storage and calling REST APIs, with unit and widget tests written and checked by you.
MilestonePocketPlan with saved data and live API content, covered by tests
Month 3 · Weeks 10–14
Backend, sign-in and real devices
Firebase sign-in and cloud data, notifications, permissions, and testing on real Android and iOS devices.
MilestonePocketPlan with accounts and synced data, running on a real phone
Month 4 · Weeks 15–18
AI features in your app
Call a cloud AI service from the app, for example through Firebase AI Logic, design prompts and fallbacks, keep keys out of the app, and test wrong, slow and failed answers.
MilestoneAn AI assistant feature in PocketPlan that handles bad and slow answers
Month 5 · Weeks 19–22
Release, quality and portfolio
Performance, crash reporting, store listings, Google Play and App Store review rules and testing requirements, then a portfolio write-up and interview practice.
MilestonePocketPlan submitted to both stores, with a portfolio page
03What is inside
Everything a week comes with.
Every week is built the same way, so once you have done one you know how all of them work.
- 01
One project, PocketPlan
You grow one app from a single screen to a store release, so every tool lands in something real.
- 02
A day-by-day plan
Each week has a Learn part and a Do part, with a checklist so you know when you are done.
- 03
A project in every milestone
Five milestones, each ending in something you can show and link to.
- 04
Reference topics
Short topic pages with check questions, including how to review and test AI-written code.
- 05
A job track
Interview practice, portfolio and resume help, and an application plan.
- 06
Progress in your Study plan
Add weeks to your Study plan, give them dates, and finished days are counted for you.
04Is it for you
Who this is, and is not, for.
Better to know before you start than six weeks in.
It is for you if
- You can write small programs in some language and want to build phone apps.
- You are a web developer, a student or a tester moving into mobile.
- You can give about 30 hours a week for five months. This is a part-time pace.
It is not for you if
- You have never written code. Do a beginner programming course first.
- You want deep native-only work in Kotlin or Swift. This roadmap uses one cross-platform framework and touches native features where needed.
- You want a job guarantee. Nobody can promise that, and this roadmap does not.
?Questions
Before you start
- Is this roadmap ready?
- Not yet. This is the plan. The weeks are being written and checked against current job postings and official documentation. Leave your email and we will write to you when it opens.
- What will it cost?
- The price is not set. Roadmaps are bought once, with no subscription. We will announce it when this one opens.
- Will the plan change?
- It may. Before the weeks are written we check the tools against current job postings, so the lengths and months here are planned, not final.
- Will it get me a job?
- It will give you skills and proof of work. It cannot promise a job on a fixed date, because hiring depends on the market, your location and your past work.
- Do I need a Mac, and why Flutter?
- Building and submitting an iOS app needs a Mac with Xcode. Without one you can still do the Android path, and the roadmap will say which weeks need a Mac. Flutter is one framework that targets both Android and iOS, and job postings often ask for experience in a framework like it. The final choice is confirmed against postings before the weeks are written.
